Gino 1 Seibi › Pass mark and pass rate
Pass mark and pass rate of the SSW automobile maintenance exam
The first questions most people ask are: how many items must I get right, and how many people pass? This page explains the official pass marks, how they turn into item counts, and why we do not quote a pass rate.
Last updated: 2026-10-12
At a glance
- 20/30theory items (65% or more)
- 60%of the practical total
- 2parts, both must be passed
- ~30days until JASPA posts passing IDs
The official pass marks
According to the JASPA test page, the automobile maintenance SSW (i) test has two pass marks: theory (学科) is passed when correct answers reach 65% of the items; practical (実技) is passed when the total score reaches 60%. The parts are scored separately. A very high theory score cannot make up for a low practical score, or the other way round.
Turning percentages into items
| Theory items correct | Rate | Theory result |
|---|---|---|
| 18/30 | 60.0% | Not passed |
| 19/30 | 63.3% | Not passed |
| 20/30 | 66.7% | Passed |
| 24/30 | 80.0% | Passed with a safety margin |
In other words you can miss at most 10 theory items. For the practical part, JASPA states the mark as a total score and does not publish per-item points on its page, so we do not guess how the real test weights items. In the app each practical item is worth 1 point: 6 of 9 (66.7%) passes, 5 of 9 (55.6%) does not.
About the pass rate (合格率)
Many people search for the pass rate. The JASPA test page we checked on 2026-10-12 does not list a pass rate or the number of candidates; it posts lists of passing ID numbers by test date. So this page gives no figure. If you see a number online, check where it comes from and which test it refers to ((i) or (ii), which year, which country).
What matters more than an overall pass rate is your own level. The simplest way to measure it: sit a timed mock paper and look at each part's score.
Check yourself before test day
- Sit a full mock paper, 30 ○× items and 3 practical tasks, with translation switched off.
- Note each part's score. If theory is under 20 or practical under 6/9, see which group the missed items belong to (engine, chassis, electrical, measuring…).
- Study that group, then sit another paper. Aim above the pass mark, for example 24/30, to keep a margin for test-day nerves.
- Review missed items after 1, 3 and 7 days.
Work on weak groups with the engine, chassis and brakes and practical test pages.
After the test
JASPA posts the passing ID numbers on its website within about 30 days of the test. According to the JASPA page, from April 2026 candidates can view their score report (スコアレポート) on the Prometric portal; it is not a pass certificate. The certificate is requested by the accepting company once it decides to employ you. For retake rules, see the JASPA and Prometric pages, and the test dates and registration page.
Scored like the real test in the app
Gino 1 Seibi scores the two parts separately against 65% and 60% and only shows a pass when both are met. 20 papers, papers 1 to 3 free.
VIP unlocks papers 4 to 20 and the detailed explanations for missed items. VIP is bought inside the iOS app with Apple payment, and Apple shows the price. The App Store version is coming soon. You can try the free exams on the web now.

FAQ
How many theory items must I get right?
65% of the items. With 30 items, 65% is 19.5; since you can only get whole items right, you need at least 20.
What is the practical pass mark?
60% of the total practical score. JASPA states the mark as a total score. In the Gino 1 Seibi app each practical item is worth 1 point, so you need 6 of 9.
What is the pass rate?
The JASPA test page (checked 2026-10-12) does not publish a pass rate or candidate numbers, so we do not quote one. Be careful with figures that have no official source.
When do results come out?
JASPA posts the passing ID numbers on its website within about 30 days of the test. From April 2026 the score report can be viewed on the Prometric portal.
